Library and canvas
Open any file full screen, mark exactly what you mean, and let an agent change it.
The Library holds every file you upload or an agent creates: documents, decks, spreadsheets, images, video, audio, apps, and Mermaid diagrams. Opening a file shows it in the canvas, with the rest of the Library listed beside it.
The canvas
The file fills the page. Controls float around it:
- Top left: the file name (rename, download), and buttons for Notes, History, and Creative tools. Paged files add a page or slide list; apps and diagrams add a source view.
- Top right: zoom, share link, download, close.
- Bottom: tools that fit the file, such as pinning a note on a picture or trimming a video.
- Bottom right: a chat box. It talks to Commons Copilot by default; pick any of your agents from the avatar. Sending a message opens the chat beside the file, and the chat stays open as you move between files.
Notes
A note marks one exact place and says something about it. How you make one depends on the file:
| File | Mark it by |
|---|---|
| PDF, Word, Markdown, text | Selecting text. The note keeps the exact quote. |
| Images, slides, PDF pages | Pinning a point or drawing an area. |
| Video | Pinning a point or area on a frame, or selecting a range on the timeline. |
| Audio | Selecting a range on the timeline. |
| Spreadsheets | Selecting cells. The note keeps the sheet, range, and values. |
| Apps and websites | Pinning an element in the live preview. The note keeps its selector, text, and attributes. |
| Code and diagram source | Selecting lines. |
| Mermaid diagrams | Pinning a node. |
New notes are added to your next chat message as chips. Remove a chip to leave a note out, or add older notes from the Notes list. The agent receives each note's exact location. Vision models also receive a picture of the marked area or frame.
History
Every change an agent makes is a new version. History lists the versions and who made them; select one to make it current. Sources lists the files that went into the artifact, such as reference images or music options, which you can play and swap in.
Video and audio
The timeline shows frames (or the waveform), notes, and scene changes. Drag to select a range, then add a note, trim to it, or cut it. Transcribe adds a timestamped transcript lane. Arrow keys step one frame; Shift steps a second; I and O set the range.
Agents edit clips with exact operations: trim, cut, join or insert clips, add or replace sound, volume, speed, crop, resize, fades, captions, and blurring an area. Every edit is a new version.
Creative tools
Choose the model and settings agents use for images, video, speech, and music on this file. Leave a type on Let the agent choose to use the default.
Local mode
In Local mode files open and chat works with your Local agents. Notes and version history are saved in Commons Cloud.
